On Monday, February 22, in the framework of the project Access to Justice and Legal Education in The Gambia (A2J), the Civic Awareness Campaign was launched in Brikama. Activities have included: (1) A meeting with community leaders that featured music, theatre and talks by the local campaign implementers NCCE, ADRS, NALA and FLAG; (2) mobile legal clinics by ADRS and NALA throughout the West Coast Region in 12 different locations, (3) FLAG training of community leaders on issues involving women and children, (4) FLAG training of police officers on how to handle criminal issues involving children and women under the Children's Act, Women's Act and the Family Law Act,(5) a high profile launching event at the West Coast Region Governor's office in Brikama, and (6) a three-day football match targeted for youth regarding Access to Justice themes, including a festive kick-off event and a closing awards event with high media profile. FLAG took baseline monitoring data from all of their groups that will assist EU evaluators at a later date. Team members also participated in local radio talk shows in the West Coast region.

The visibility campaign also included placement of approximately 12 highway billboards, thousands of t-shirts and caps, foulards and scarves, posters and brochures.
After Brikama, the Campaign will start its pilot in Kwinella on April 4 to last through April 29.
