Specific objective
Analyse of the knowledge and best practices from the visitor centres, and review of the most relevant steps including how to build, organise and use visitor centres to create domestic and international tourism marketing.
This assignment will have a special focus on Greenland, but also Curaçao, Anguilla and Montserrat.
Requested services
- Carrying out an analysis of the knowledge and best practises from the visitor centres: listing already existing visitor centres with their best practises and their risks for good operation.
- Establishing cooperation between the visitor centres good practices and the OCTs;
- Development of recommendations for building, organising and using visitor centres, with the consideration of creation of domestic and international marketing: analysis of the most relevant steps taking into account listed best practises;
- Development of recommendations of the way of funding tourist centres;
- Development of guidelines for promotion of heritage in the tourist centres;
- Development of guidelines for promotion of local products and souvenirs;
- Development of recommendations on how to profile tourist destination, and to match the tourist centres with the targeted tourist niches. This could be any, or more niches including some of the following niches: high-level niche, eco-tourism, agrotourism, special tourism (diving, hiking, kite surfing),particular tourism niche related to particular features of the island/weather conditions such as artic tourism.
Location
The assignment of the Expert should be carried out home-based and on mission to at least Greenland and at least one of the OCTs among Anguilla, Curaçao and Montserrat. The length and timing of the missions are to be agreed in advance with the Team Leader of OCTA Innovation. Weekends and travel days are not considered as working days.
The deliverables are:
- Scoping study for the tourist centres issues in all relevant aspects in the listed OCTs;
- Analysis of the knowledge and best practises from the visitor centres; including establishing cooperation between the good practices and the OCTs;
- Recommendations for building, organising and using visitor centres, with the consideration of creation of domestic and international marketing;
- Recommendations of the way of funding tourist centres;
- Guidelines for promotion of heritage in the tourist centres;
- Guidelines for promotion of local products and souvenirs in the tourist centres;
- Recommendations on how to profile tourist destination, and to match the tourist centres with the targeted tourist niches;
- A PowerPoint presentation on the subject of the assignment to be given during the workshop while on mission to the OCTs. There should be at least 10 persons attending the workshop and they would get a certificate of training. Signed certificate by the facilitator-expert and by OCTA Innovation Team Leader;
- A text to camera on the subject of the assignment. This could be used for various information materials, including part of the modules for OCTA Innovation’s e-learning platform. The recording session will be done at the OCTs during the missions. Video clips could be done by smartphone, if no professional camera; Minimum 20 photos and video clips taken during the mission related to the assignment, possible to use in means of electronic communications;
- Final project report on the assignment and its results.

Job profile
Qualifications and skills
- At least a Master Degree in an area relevant for tourism, or university degree in the above area with equivalent professional experience of 10 years in the relevant field;
- Excellent reporting and drafting skills;
- Good working knowledge of the use of standard computer software;
- Excellent level of English (written and spoken).
General professional experience
- A minimum of ten years of professional experience in the field of tourism.
Specific professional experience
The expert must have the following competencies:
- Sound knowledge of the tourism centres;
- A good understanding of the touristic issues of the islands;
- Sound knowledge of various touristic niches;
- Experience as an expert in an EU-funded project;
Additional features that would be an asset
- Experience in artic tourism, high niche tourism, yacht tourism, cruise tourism, eco-tourism, agro tourism, special tourism;
- Knowledge of innovation projects, especially in the context of small island states;
- Knowledge of the OCTs;
- Experience as expert in similar tasks for other EU-funded projects;
- Knowledge of the Dutch and Danish languages.
